Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon’s image is still spreading. This is shown by the support given to the twelve runners of the club “A les nou” from Godella, who participated in the Land Rover Malta marathon 2011. This group of Valencian runners attended the Maltese marathon on the 27th of February proving their good qualities and the running spirit Valencia displays.
“The international runner has a very good perception of our city and knows Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon” Luis Cortés remarks. The member of the club “A les nou” from Godella turned, together with his comrades, into an emblem of the Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon, wearing T-shirts and broadcasting the Valencian marathon among runners from such diverse countries as Germany, Canada, Brazil, Thailand or Australia.
Many of the group members took the chance of including international destinations on their calendars and Malta was the main option because of the traveling simplicity. “Despite that the weather wasn’t very good, it was a very nice race” Luis Cortés remarks, who valued positively the nice environment there was: “the popular runners have to choose about two or three marathons a year and although Malta is not among the great races it is an interesting destination”.
In spite of the adverse weather conditions, every member of the Valencian club came back with excellent results and many of them with a personal record achieved in the race, which ended up with Moroccan Mohammed Hajjy as a champion, with a time of 2:19:34. The first «A les nou»’s member to finish was Cristóbal Herreros, who came in the 52nd place of the general ranking with a time of 3:16:48. Quite a merit which was followed by the club’s leader, Luis Hoyas’ arrival at the finish line three places behind, finishing, likewise, in fourth place in the Over 50’s category. Besides the Marathon, four women took part in the half-marathon.
The club “A les nou” is headquartered in Godella’s sports hall and has its activities divided into groups during the whole week. In the Maltese race they were one of the clubs with the highest attendance of runners. Among their future objectives, is to cover the five great marathons (Chicago, Boston, New York, Berlin and London) before the next three years are over. This is a target which they will combine with the renovated Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon, a race they will attend, along with all the runners from the Valencian Community, on the 20th of November, 2011.
